Junior Mechanical Draughtsman

About the position

A specialised engineering organisation is seeking a Junior Mechanical Draughtsman to join their technical team.

 The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 2D and 3D mechanical designs, technical drawings, layouts, and engineering documentation while supporting industrial engineering projects.

The ideal candidate will have practical drafting experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment, with exposure to mechanical design, CAD software, technical drawings, and industrial mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create accurate 2D and 3D mechanical designs for industrial applications.
• Develop detailed mechanical drawings for:
• Weighing hoppers
• Feeders
• Silos
• Mechanical assemblies
• On-site mechanical systems
• Prepare batch plant layouts and support retrofit projects.
• Produce engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
• Apply GD&T principles where required.
• Maintain drawing accuracy and ensure proper document control.
• Interpret technical specifications, engineering concepts, and project requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, technical teams, and project stakeholders.
• Conduct site measurements and provide technical support.
• Assist with troubleshooting and mechanical design improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

• National Diploma or Certificate in Engineering Draughting or a related field (NQF Level 5/6).
• Minimum 2–3 years' practical experience in a drafting role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Experience with mechanical drafting and technical drawings.
• Proficiency in CAD software, preferably AutoCAD.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.
