About the position
A premier South African mining company is seeking a Junior Maintenance Engineer to optimise equipment reliability and maintenance strategies at their Gauteng operations. This is a pivotal role for an engineering professional ready to lead teams, improve processes, and maximise asset performance in a dynamic open-pit environment.
Requirements:
- BSc/BEng/BTech in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-5 years' mining industry experience (open-pit preferred)
- Technical Proficiency:
- Maintenance management systems (On Key, ClickView, SAP)
- Root cause analysis & reliability engineering
- Capitalised maintenance planning
- Leadership Skills:
- Proven team mentorship abilities
- Strong decision-making in high-pressure environments
- Strategic Mindset:
- Asset management principles
- Inventory optimisation
- Process improvement
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Optimization: Ensure cost-effective, timely completion of maintenance activities; Maximize equipment availability & reliability (OEE improvement); Minimize production impact through strategic planning
- Asset Management: Oversee critical spares inventory (reduce redundancy); Approve equipment specifications for capitalized maintenance; Implement predictive maintenance strategies
- Leadership: Mentor engineering teams; Conduct resource capacity planning; Drive high-performance culture
- Reporting & Analysis: Generate maintenance performance reports; Provide input for strategic procurement decisions
- Work Environment: Open-pit mining operations; Office/field split (70/30); High-pressure, results-driven culture
