About the position
ENVIRONMENT:
OUR client, a fast-growing digital banking platform redefining traditional banking through innovative, technology-driven solutions, is seeking a highly meticulous and self-driven Junior Internal Auditor to join its Joburg team. You will support the Internal Audit function by documenting basic operational processes, executing transactional sample testing, and assisting with simplified routine audit reviews. Operating with close mentorship and guidance from the Internal Audit Specialist, this role focuses heavily on fundamental execution, attention to detail, accuracy, and developing a deep operational understanding of banking and alliance partner processes. The role is open to fresh Graduates / with internship experience OR candidates with up to 1 year of practical Internal Audit experience (Banking/Financial Services experience is not required; full training on banking processes will be provided).
DUTIES:
Process Documentation & Walkthroughs -
- Shadow Operational Managers and team members to map and document step-by-step business and operational processes.
- Clearly capture workflow hand-offs, approvals, sign-offs, and basic internal control points (e.g., invoice authorization flows, payment processing).
Basic Transactional Testing -
- Conduct detail-level sample testing against documented processes (e.g., retrieving sample invoices to verify invoice numbers, correct VAT calculations, required line-item descriptions, and appropriate management sign-offs).
- Verify end-to-end processing accuracy, such as matching invoice details against final banking/finance payment confirmation records.
- Sample and test transactional data for completeness, validity, and mathematical accuracy.
Routine & Ad Hoc Audits -
- Interest Rate Auditing: Perform simple audit checks during interest rate adjustments by comparing system-loaded rates against master spreadsheets and approved central bank/internal rate notifications.
- IT3(b) Tax Reporting Audits: Perform recalculations and verify customer account data to ensure completeness, validity, and accuracy of annual tax reporting.
- Assist with ad-hoc administrative and operational audit requests as directed by line management.
Working Papers & Reporting -
- Maintain clean, organized, and traceable audit working papers and evidence files.
- Summarize audit findings and report all draft work directly to the Internal Audit Specialist for review and sign-off.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Open to fresh Graduates / with internship experience OR candidates with up to 1 year of practical Internal Audit experience (Banking/Financial Services experience is not required; full training on banking processes will be provided).
- Microsoft Excel: Intermediate proficiency (ability to manipulate spreadsheets, re-perform basic mathematical calculations, and run data comparisons).
- Microsoft PowerPoint: Basic proficiency to assist with simple report presentations.
