Junior Infrastructure Engineer (JHB Onsite)

About the position

ENVIRONMENT:

A Junior Infrastructure Engineer is sought by a fast-paced Data and Cybersecurity Specialist in Joburg to join its team. Your role will entail monitoring servers, networks, and systems for performance and availability, performing recoveries on Cohesity, installing and maintaining software and hardware while maintaining Infrastructure asset inventory in NetBox. Applicants must have relevant work experience, basic knowledge of Windows/Linux servers, familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VPN, Freshdesk, JIRA & exposure to virtualization tools such as VMware and Proxmox.

DUTIES:

System Monitoring and Maintenance -

• Monitor servers, networks, and systems for performance and availability.
• Patching.
• Help identify and resolve hardware and software issues.

Support and Troubleshooting -

• Assist Cape Town with Helpdesk tickets or technical support requests.
• Escalate complex problems to Senior Engineers.
• Perform recoveries on Cohesity.

Hardware and Software Setup -

• Install and configure new hardware (laptops, printers, servers).
• Install and maintain software, ensuring licensing compliance.
• Assist in installing new equipment in the DC.
• Drive/Cable replacements at the DC.

Network Support -

• Help troubleshoot connectivity issues.
• Support VPN setup and remote access tools.

Documentation and Reporting –

• Maintain Infrastructure asset inventory in NetBox.
• Document change requests, service requests.
• Process RMA’s.

Security and Compliance -

• Assist in enforcing IT policies and security practices.
• Support antivirus and endpoint protection.
• Monitor systems for signs of security breaches or vulnerabilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Basic knowledge of Windows/Linux servers.
• Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.
• Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VPN).
• Use of ticketing systems (e.g., Freshdesk, JIRA).
• Exposure to virtualization tools (e.g., VMware, Proxmox).
• Willing to work overtime and weekends when needed.
• Effective communicator with a collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork.

Advantageous –

• Basic scripting (PowerShell, Bash) is a plus.
