About the position
Our client is a specialist engineering consultancy providing innovative solutions to the global mining and resource industry. They are looking for a motivated and technically minded Junior Engineer to join their team in Parow East, Cape Town. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate or junior professional to gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle while working alongside experienced Professional Engineers. The successful candidate will be involved in engineering design, project coordination, site visits, laboratory testing, technical reporting, and client interaction, with ongoing mentorship towards professional registration.
Responsibilities:
Engineering Design
- Assist with the process and hydraulic design of slurry, water, and backfill pumping systems.
- Support the mechanical design of pumping systems and backfill plants.
- Prepare equipment, valve, instrumentation, and piping schedules.
- Assist with capital and operational cost estimates.
- Perform laboratory testing on material samples.
- Prepare CAD drawings and technical documentation where required
Project Support
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and proposal preparation.
- Support Project Managers and Professional Engineers throughout project execution.
- Attend client meetings and site visits for data gathering, inspections, and commissioning activities.
- Assist with project coordination and ensure deliverables are completed on schedule
Technical Documentation
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, presentations, and engineering calculations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and technical records.
- Assist with general engineering administration and reporting.
Professional Development
- Work closely with experienced engineers on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Participate in ongoing training and development with the goal of registering as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
- Uphold company, national, and international engineering standards and best practices.
Requirements:
- BTech, BEng, BSc Engineering, MEng, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering.
- 0-3 years experience within a consulting, process engineering, mining, or related engineering environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent computer literacy.
- CAD experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Passion for engineering and willingness to work in both office and mining site environments.
- Valid driver's licence.
- South African citizen with a valid passport.
- No criminal record.
