Junior Draughtsman

About the position

Our client located in Bloemfontein is looking for a junior draughtsman to join their team.

The Junior Draughtsman will be responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings and schematics for Transformer and Miniature Substation manufacturing projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, the Junior Draughtsman will convert conceptual layouts into detailed designs using SolidWorks software, ensuring all work complies with industry and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Technical Drawing & Design:

• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings for Transformers, Miniature Substations, and related components.
• Use SolidWorks to develop accurate and high-quality design documentation.
• Revise drawings based on engineering redlines, customer requirements, or manufacturing feedback.

Collaboration & Interpretation:

• Work closely with design engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to interpret project concepts and convert them into practical drawings.
• Participate in design review meetings and update drawings based on feedback.

Compliance & Standards:

• Ensure that all drawings adhere to SANS/IEC standards, manufacturing tolerances, and internal quality procedures.
• Maintain drawing templates and update drawing records in line with company filing systems.

Documentation & Archiving:

• Maintain a complete and organized archive of project drawings and related documentation.
• Update revisions and issue control of drawings in collaboration with the design team.

Other:

• The candidate will be required to do work outside of the job description from time to time.
• Work closely with the engineering department to ensure all deadlines are met and plan for the upcoming week.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Draughting or Engineering Drawing.
• 1–2 years of experience in a draughting role, preferably in an electrical or mechanical manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Revit.
