About the position
ENVIRONMENT:
GAIN broad exposure to real infrastructure — from on-prem hosting to Azure-based solutions working with an array of clients & projects as the next Junior DevOps Engineer wanted to join the team of a Boutique Software House. You’ll play a key part in maintaining and improving a diverse range of infrastructure, from bare-metal servers hosted in data centres to cloud services running in Microsoft Azure. This role is perfect for someone with a solid understanding of server hosting and administration who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting and is eager to learn modern DevOps practices like Azure DevOps, cloud scaling, and CI/CD pipelines over time. You’ll work across multiple client environments, each with unique requirements — from hosting setups to database scaling — so a willingness to learn, adapt, and tailor solutions per client is essential. Applicants will need a BSc in IT/Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent qualification) & strong foundational knowledge of Ubuntu Server, Windows, MySQL, MSQL, DNS.
DUTIES:
Server Administration -
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Ubuntu Server and Windows Server [Phone Number Removed];).
- Manage web hosting setups via Apache (Ubuntu) and IIS (Windows).
Database Management -
- Install, configure, and maintain MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Support clients with scaling or optimizing their database environments.
Infrastructure Support -
- Handle bare-metal servers and virtualized/cloud environments.
- Respond to downtime alerts and system failures, including disk/storage issues, service crashes, and resource bottlenecks.
- Monitor server performance and assist with backups, recovery, and capacity planning.
Troubleshooting & Incident Response -
- Use SSH, PowerShell, and other terminal tools to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Apply critical thinking to investigate problems calmly and methodically.
Client-focused Infrastructure Management -
- Understand each client’s unique setup and hosting requirements.
- Assist with infrastructure changes such as new server deployments, resource scaling, and system upgrades.
- Provide informed recommendations to improve stability and performance.
Monitoring & Reporting -
- Support and respond to alerts from tools like Zabbix, Grafana, or Cloudflare.
Documentation -
- Maintain clear records of configuration changes, incidents, and resolutions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications –
- BSc in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent qualification).
- Certifications (Beneficial to the position):
- Microsoft (MCSA, AZ-104)
- CompTIA (Server+, Network+, Linux+)
Experience/Skills –
- 2–3 Years of hands-on experience in a server administration or DevOps-related role OR a recent Graduate with strong internship or practical exposure to similar environments.
Strong foundational knowledge of:
- Ubuntu Server administration.
- Windows Server (IIS setup, roles & features).
- Apache hosting.
- MySQL & MSSQL database management.
- Networking basics: DNS, ports, IP addressing, firewalls.
- Proficiency in SSH, PowerShell, and command-line tools.
- Understanding of disk arrays (RAID), storage health, and server performance tuning.
- Good documentation and communication skills.
- A calm, critical troubleshooting mindset.
Nice to haves –
- Exposure to Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, basic CI/CD).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
- Experience with monitoring solutions (Grafana, Zabbix, Cloudflare Analytics).
- Understanding of source control (Git).
- Willingness to adopt modern DevOps practices over time.
