About the position
Our client, a South African company with an international reach and client base, is looking for a bright Engineer (Mechanical/Industrial) with some experience in Cost Engineering. This is an exciting role that will put you at the forefront of Multi-Million Rand Projects for South Africa and beyond.
Your Role will consist of:
- Developing Cost Estimates: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for projects or products, considering factors such as materials, labor, overhead, and other relevant expenses.
- Vendor and Supplier Management: Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing, negotiate contracts, and establish favourable terms. Evaluate supplier performance and conduct supplier cost analysis to optimize procurement processes.
- Cost Control Measures: Implement cost control measures to manage project budgets and control expenditures. Monitor project costs throughout the project lifecycle and take corrective actions as needed to prevent cost overruns.
- Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and finance to ensure alignment of cost objectives with overall business goals. Provide cost-related guidance and support to project teams as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of cost data, estimates, and analysis. Prepare cost reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate cost-related information to stakeholders and management.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements related to cost estimation and management. Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization.
- Compliance and Ethics: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and ethical guidelines related to cost estimation, procurement, and financial management. Uphold ethical standards in all cost-related activities and decisions.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Develop an understanding of the company's existing costing methods, models, tools, and software to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Deepen your knowledge of the company's product range and the fabrication processes required for their manufacture.
- Prepare RFQs to subcontractors and suppliers, expediting quotations and ensuring that cost estimates are delivered on time.
- Attend site inspections and contribute to the achievement of the company's sales objectives.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A qualification in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering
- ± 3 years' experience in Project Costing or Cost Estimation (multi-disciplined Projects, including Fabrication)
- Experienced in working with and analysing Fabrication and Technical Drawings.
