About the position
- Design & Documentation:
- Assist in the development of architectural designs and concepts from initial brief to detailed plans.
- Produce detailed 2D architectural and interior drawings, construction documents, and specifications under supervision.
- Create 3D models and renderings to support design presentations and visualizations.
- Assist in preparing technical documentation for building plan submissions to local authorities in Cape Town (e.g., City of Cape Town).
- Develop interior layouts, furniture plans, joinery details, and finishes schedules.
- Project Support & Coordination:
- Support senior architects in project coordination and management across all project phases (concept to completion).
- Conduct site visits within Cape Town and the broader Western Cape area, assisting with site analysis, measurements, and as-built drawings.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations, assisting with proposal preparation and reports.
- Research materials, building codes (especially local regulations), zoning regulations, and construction methods to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, other consultants, and internal team members.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with relevant South African building standards, codes, and regulations.
- Contribute to design reviews and brainstorming sessions.
- Maintain digital drawing libraries and project documentation.

- Take initiative and contribute new ideas to improve design and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture (B.Arch)
- Registration as a Candidate Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) or eligibility for registration is highly advantageous.
- 3- 6 years of post-qualification experience in an architectural practice (relevant internship experience will be strongly considered).
Required Skills Competencies:

- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong proficiency in architectural software, particularly AutoCAD and Revit (non-negotiable).
- Familiarity with 3D rendering software such as SketchUp, Twinmotion, Enscape, or similar.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Solid understanding of architectural design principles, building systems, and construction processes.
- Basic knowledge of local building codes and regulations in South Africa, with a willingness to quickly learn specific City of Cape Town municipal requirements.
- Design & Creativity:
- Strong design and presentation skills, with a keen eye for detail, composition, lighting, and colour.
- Ability to translate conceptual designs into detailed plans and visuals.
- A portfolio showcasing design and technical skills is essential.
