Job Summary
We are seeking a diligent and motivated Junior Accountant to support our finance department. This entry-level position is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day financial transactions, record-keeping, and general accounting duties to ensure accurate financial control and reporting within the company.
Key Responsibilities
The Junior Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Bookkeeping and Data Entry: Capturing and processing daily financial transactions, including sales invoices, purchase orders, payments, and receipts, into the accounting software (e.g., Pastel/Sage).
- Creditors and Debtors: Assisting with the management of the creditors and debtors ledgers, including reconciling statements and following up on outstanding invoices.
- Bank Reconciliations: Performing daily and monthly bank and cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy between the bank statements and the general ledger.
- Expense Management: Processing staff claims, petty cash, and corporate card expenses, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
- Administrative Support: Filing and archiving financial documentation, managing correspondence, and providing general administrative support to the Financial Manager.
- Reporting Assistance: Assisting in the preparation of month-end closing procedures and supporting documentation for management reporting.
- Inventory Support: Liaising with the operations team to reconcile inventory counts and stock valuation as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A relevant Tertiary Qualification (Diploma or Degree) in Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping is required.
- 0-1 year of practical experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles (e.g., double-entry bookkeeping).
- Experience with a recognised accounting software package (e.g., Pastel, Sage, QuickBooks) is highly advantageous.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Excellent numerical ability and strict attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Must be legally entitled to work in South Africa.
