Field Network & Server Engineer

About the position

As a Field Network Server Engineer, you will deliver premium onsite IT infrastructure services to our diverse Johannesburg client base. This customer-facing role combines technical expertise with exceptional service delivery to maintain the company's reputation as a trusted technology partner for South African businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute onsite installation, maintenance, and emergency support for network/server systems across Gauteng client sites
• Serve as primary technical escalation point for the company's managed service clients
• Implement infrastructure solutions using the company's preferred technologies (Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Veeam, Dell/HP)
• Conduct client infrastructure health checks and risk assessments with documented improvement plans
• Maintain accurate client documentation in the company's management systems
• Develop trusted advisor relationships with clients' operational teams
• Identify client growth opportunities for the company's service portfolio
• Support project teams during new client onboarding and infrastructure upgrades
• Ensure compliance with the company's service delivery standards and security protocols

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Diploma/Degree in IT, Engineering or related field (NQF 5/6 equivalent)
• Essential Certifications: ** Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate **OR MCSA/MCSE
• **Advantageous Certifications: ** Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Server+, VMware VCP
• 3+ years hands-on experience with:
• Windows Server deployment & administration
• Hyper-V/VMware virtualization environments
• Network infrastructure (Firewalls, Switches, WAPs)
• Valid South African driver's license (Code B) with own reliable vehicle
• Clear criminal record (client site access requirement)

Preferred Requirements:

• Microsoft 365/Azure hybrid environments
• Veeam Backup & Replication
• Sophos/Cisco Meraki security solutions
• Understanding of POPIA compliance requirements
• Willingness to participate in the company's 24/7 on-call rotation

NB:Contract position for 6 months with a view of extension for 1 year.

Desired Skills:

• Expert troubleshooting of LAN/WAN TCP/IP VPN and AD environments
• Professional client communication in English (Zulu/Sotho proficiency advantageous)
• Ability to translate technical issues for business stakeholders
• Time management for multi-client support across Gauteng region
• Documentation precision using the company's standard operating procedures
