About the position
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Linux Level 2 Administrator to join our clients IT infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Linux systems and services. You will work closely with the current Linux team to ensure system performance, reliability, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates humility and accountability by being able to say, "I don't know" and "I messed up".
- Perform routine system administration tasks, including user account management, disk space monitoring, and system health checks.
- Monitor system performance and logs to proactively identify and troubleshoot issues.
- Conduct regular maintenance such as patching, kernel updates, and package upgrades.
- Perform root cause analysis and provide resolutions for hardware/software incidents.
- Maintain system security through access control, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and operational changes for the internal knowledge base.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when necessary.
- Assist with automation and scripting using Ansible and shell scripting.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Linux certification (e.g., RHCSA, LPIC-1/2) is a strong advantage.
Experience:
2-4 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration.
Experience working in a 24/7 production environment is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Operating Systems:
- Proficient in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Ubuntu or other major Linux distributions
- System Administration:
- Hands-on experience with system monitoring, patching, user management, and file systems
- Proficient in configuring and maintaining system services like SSH, DNS, NFS, Apache/Nginx, and Samba
- Experience with package managers (e.g., yum, dnf, apt) and kernel tuning
- Scripting & Automation:
- Shell scripting (Bash) is essential
- Knowledge of Python, Perl, or Ansible for automation is a plus
- Security & Compliance:
- Familiarity with security hardening, firewall configuration, and vulnerability management
- Understanding of SELinux, auditd, and system logging (rsyslog/journald)
- Virtualization
- Exposure to VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V environments
- Monitoring & Performance:
- Knowledge of monitoring tools
- Troubleshooting performance issues and analyzing system logs
