About the position
We are looking for a National IR Manager. The Industrial Relations Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining positive employee relations, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations, and handling all industrial relations issues within the organization.
The incumbent is responsible for the development and delivery of expert advice in HR strategies, projects, policies, manuals and collective agreement development and application. He/she is required to engage in constructive union management relationship and collective bargaining processes. The incumbent is also required to co-ordinate and act as a key participant in the collective bargaining process, advise management and work with union officials on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement and manage the grievance process to create and maintain a stable Industrial Relations climate.
The role reports to the Human Capital Executive
Key responsibilities
- Ensures a common understanding and interpretation of policies and the collective agreements.
- Ensures compliance with company HR, legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Identifies operational and reputational risks in the area of Industrial Relations and develop/implement mitigation measures to address issues identified.
- Educates management on negotiated contract changes and assist with the implementation, where required.
- Develops and maintains expertise on various working conditions in similar organisations, trends, jurisprudence.
- Provides expert advice on Industrial Relations matters at the Corporation.
- Develops and implements strategies that promote and maintain a healthy and stable Industrial Relations climate.
- Prepares briefing for executive management on various labour issues.
- Participates in key strategic and operational discussions on human resources issues, priorities, systems, processes, performance indicators, human resources and budgets.
- Develops and implements relevant policies, procedures and processes.
- Assists in developing and updating the Human Resources policies, practices, guidelines, manuals, processes and procedures while aligning,
- Assist in the development of IR and ER labour protocols, operating procedures and handbooks.
- Maintain and follow HR policies, regulations and procedures related to the function, rights and responsibilities of all staff.
- Ensure that all staff members are aware of the IR and ER protocols and regulations, and that employees have access to the relevant handbooks when needed.
- Work with the HR and departmental Managers with respect to disciplinary action required, including preparation of documents, investigation of any offence, scheduling hearings, and attendance at hearings.
- Where necessary support the HR and departmental managers on any CCMA or Labour court referrals
- Ensure the wellness program for staff is clearly documented and that staff are aware and regularly updated of the resources available to them
- Ensure continuous revision, internal training and updates are provided on various IR and ER and recent case law and that this is conducted regularly across all levels of staff and where necessary coordinate external training on relevant matters
- Work with the representative union and management in managing conflict between parties and employees
- Negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the representative union and management.
- Assist in the organization and induction of new staff on the code of conduct, HR and IR protocols and operating procedures during orientation
- Facilitate consultation on s189 and s197 of the LRA

Qualifications and expereience
- Degree, diploma or other relevant tertiary relating to Labour Legislation
- Labour dispute resolution certificate will be an added advantage
- 5 Years' experience in a similar role
- BCEA and LRA knowledge and application
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken
- Extensive experience in working with unskilled and semi-skilled workforce
