About the position

The salary offer is R236 164.00 per annum.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To support the aims on the National Inventory Unit by ensuring heritage resources are effectively inventorised and included in the inventory of the national estate as per the requirements of the National Heritage Resources Act.

KPA 1: Inventory Data Maintenance.
KPA 2: Project Support.
KPA 3: Stakeholder Engagement.
KPA 4: Policy Implementation.
KPA 5: Operational and Records Management.

Key Performance Area (KPA):

Inventory Data Maintenance:

  • Always maintain and update heritage inventory data.
  • Produce regular reports on the quality of data held within the inventory of the national estate.
  • Review content within the inventory of the national estate and make, amend, or recommend the deletion of entries as required under section 39(3) of the NHRA.
  • Review of inventories and make recommendations for approval.
  • Review inventories submitted as part of declaration processes.
  • Review and import of bulk inventories submitted to SAHRA for permitting.
  • Liaise with SAHRA Units to assist with regular updating of the inventory.
  • Assist Provincial and Local Authorities, as needed, with feeding inventory data into the inventory of the national estate.
  • Perform data analysis tasks to provide insight into the inventory of the national estate.
  • Partake in the compilation and publishing of the Inventory of the National Estate Report. As required under section 39(7) of the NHRA.
  • Engage with other unit members to ensure effective data standards are maintained on SAHRIS for heritage inventories.

Project Support:

  • Assist Inventories & Research Coordinator with the coordination of new projects for the expansion of the national heritage resources inventory.
  • Provide support to other SAHRA units and external parties on projects relating to surveys and heritage inventories.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Identify potential stakeholders for the purposes of the expansion of the inventory of the national estate.
  • Facilitating access to relevant public information on the inventory.
  • Engage with internal and external parties to create awareness of the mandate for heritage inventories under the NHRA.
  • Regular engagement with stakeholders (internal & external) to ensure their inventory needs are met.
  • Assist other unit members to facilitate SAHRIS training for inventory management.

Policy Implementation:

  • Provide input and assistance with the development, review and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines towards maintenance and growth of the national inventory.

Operational and Records Management:

  • Keep copies of all administrative documents, e.g. submissions, vehicle logs, invoices, etc.
  • Prepare and facilitate approval of submissions, especially related to travel and procurement.
  • Contribute to quarterly reports and Portfolio of Evidence.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
An undergraduate Degree, or equivalent, in a Heritage Resources Management related field.

Two (2) years of practical work experience in heritage management, collections management, data management, digitization or data analysis is required. Knowledge and experience in SAHRIS would be an added advantage. The demonstration of excellent administrative skills is required for the position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders and/or service providers.

NUMERICAL SKILLS:
Ability to interpret data, calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and ratios, as well as the ability to present data to both technical and non-technical audiences.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LICENSES:
A valid Code EB (08) driver's license.

COMPUTER SKILL:
Computer literacy with regard to the use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
