About the position

Our client, a leading Textile Manufacturing company based in Durban, is looking to fill the position of Internal Quality Controller.

Purpose of the Role:
This role combines quality control, production efficiency management, and housekeeping responsibilities to ensure a clean and efficient production environment while reducing wastage and maintaining product quality.

Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of products at various stages of production to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Identify and report defects, non-conformities, or deviations from quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to address quality issues.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive records of quality control activities, including inspection reports and documentation of defects.

Wastage Reduction:

  • Analyse production processes to identify sources of wastage, including material, time, and energy waste.
  • Implement strategies and initiatives to minimize wastage and reduce production costs.
  • Provide training and guidance to production staff on wastage reduction techniques and best practices.

Imperfects Reduction:

  • Investigate the root causes of imperfect products and work with production teams to develop solutions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve processes, reduce defects, and enhance product quality.
  • Implement quality control measures to prevent the occurrence of imperfects in production.
  • Track and report on the progress of imperfects reduction initiatives.

Housekeeping and Workspace Organization:

  • Supervise and coordinate housekeeping activities to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Develop and enforce housekeeping standards, protocols, and schedules.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work areas to identify and address cleanliness, safety, and organization issues.
  • Ensure the proper disposal of waste materials and adherence to company regulations.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare regular reports on quality control, wastage reduction, and imperfects reduction efforts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of quality control procedures, wastage reduction initiatives, and housekeeping protocols.

Cut sheets:

  • Follow paper trail and ensure timely and accurate closure of all cut sheets, from fabric issue to FG dispatch.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between the expected quantities and the actual physical counts.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments, including receiving and production, to determine the root causes of shortages.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date paper and digital records of cut sheets, inventory transactions, and shortage investigation documentation.
  • Provide support to the admin team by collating necessary information.

Communicate findings, recommendations, and progress updates to the operations manager and senior management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 Senior Certificate
  • Relevant industry experience
