About the position
Background:
- The Health Justice Initiative (HJI) is a South African non-profit organisation working to address systemic health inequities and injustices in South Africa and beyond
- Founded in mid-2020 in response to the massive inequalities in public health exposed and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, HJI also focuses on the intersections between health justice, racial and gender inequity, and climate injustice, while continuing to work directly on issues of health policy
Main purpose of the job:
- To provide administrative support and assist with a wide range of activities and tasks related to HJI’s research and advocacy initiatives
Location:
- Cape Town (Hybrid working)
Who is eligible to apply?
- Persons between 18 and 35 years and in possession of a LLB Degree from a SA University
- Persons able to commit 6 months full-time to the programme.
- Preference will be given to candidates based in the Western Cape
- Persons with a strong interest in public health, medicine, economics, scientific research, policy development, activism, and community engagement
The successful candidate must:
- Demonstrate time-management and deadline-oriented skills, with the ability to work under pressure
- Show great attention to detail
- Be capable of drafting, proofreading, and preparing legal documents
- Be highly organised, efficient, and proactive
- Must be a team player
- Be an analytical thinker with detailed research proficiencies
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to multi-task with a high degree of accuracy
- The successful candidate will receive a monthly stipend
