About the position
We are seeking an Intermediate Test Analyst to join our team based in Cape Town. This is a contracting role, onsite.
Role purpose
Design and execute manual tests and contribute to automated regression testing within an established delivery team. Provide accurate, reproducible test results and defect evidence, building reliable coverage of the assigned application or business process.
Key responsibilities
• Review requirements and acceptance criteria with analysts and developers and raise missing or unclear scenarios.
• Prepare test cases, test data and expected results for assigned functional and regression coverage.
• Execute manual tests, record results accurately and identify differences between expected and actual behaviour.
• Create, extend and maintain automated tests using the team’s agreed framework and review process.
• Log reproducible defects with supporting evidence, verify fixes and perform impact related regression testing.
• Use basic SQL queries or API tools where relevant to validate data and integration behaviour.
• Maintain test records, communicate blockers early and participate in peer reviews and continuous improvement.
Essential experience and capabilities
• Hands on software testing experience with the ability to execute an assigned scope independently.
• Practical manual testing skills across functional, regression and exploratory testing.
• Practical automation experience, including writing or maintaining tests rather than only running existing scripts.
• Ability to work with the scripting or programming basics needed for the selected framework.
• Clear defect reporting, test documentation and communication of progress, risks and blockers.
• Ability to understand business workflows, follow agreed standards and incorporate technical feedback.
Preferred experience and capabilities
• Retail, ecommerce, payments, point of sale or supply chain application exposure.
• Basic SQL, API testing and source control experience, with willingness to deepen technical capability.
• ISTQB Foundation certification or equivalent learning supported by practical testing work.
Expected outcomes
• Assigned test cases are completed with accurate evidence and clear escalation of blocked work.
• Defects can be reproduced and verified efficiently, reducing avoidable clarification and retesting.
• Automated regression coverage grows in line with team standards and remains maintainable after application changes.
Stakeholder environment
Senior Test Analyst, Test Manager or QA lead, developers, business analysts and business users. Reporting line and mentoring arrangements are to be confirmed.
