About the position

They are seeking a technically minded and driven Intermediate Sales Engineer to join their close-knit team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys combining technical problem-solving with relationship-building and business development. The successful candidate will be responsible for growing sales across the Western Cape, developing long-term customer relationships, and representing innovative industrial automation solutions. This role reports directly to the General Manager.
Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development
- Grow sales and market share across the Western Cape territory.
- Identify and develop new customer opportunities across various industries.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term customer relationships.
- Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve and exceed targets.
- Represent leading global automation brands in the market.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and manage opportunities through to completion.
Technical Sales & Solution Delivery
- Engage with customers to understand their operational challenges and requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation processes and operational efficiencies.
- Recommend and present appropriate automation solutions and products.
- Deliver technical support and product guidance to customers.
- Provide practical, value-adding solutions that address customer needs and enhance performance.
- Stay informed on industry developments, emerging technologies, and product innovations.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop rapport and trust with customers through exceptional service delivery.
- Conduct regular customer visits across greater Cape Town and the wider Western Cape region.
- Manage customer expectations and provide ongoing support throughout the sales cycle.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales activities.
Collaboration & Continuous Learning
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure seamless customer support and service delivery.
- Continuously expand technical knowledge across products, solutions, and applications.
- Contribute positively to the team environment and support business objectives.
Requirements:
- Relevant degree or diploma in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in industrial automation sales or technical support.
- Experience with sensors, control systems, or pneumatics is highly advantageous.
- Broader automation experience gained within a high-intensity environment will also be considered.
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Comfortable interacting with customers and developing long-term business relationships.
- Ideally proficient in English and Afrikaans.
- Valid driver's licence.
