Intermediate Java Developer (Contract)

About the position

A South African IT consulting and software development company that builds digital products, offering custom software engineering, providing user-centered design (UX/UI), and supplying outsourced tech teams to corporate and startup clients, is seeking a Intermediate Java Developer.

Responsibilities:

• Core Development: Build and maintain high-volume Java services on an enterprise telecoms billing platform.
  
  
• Integration & Messaging: Connect systems using enterprise patterns, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ.
  
  
• Database Optimization: Write and tune complex SQL queries across MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  
  
• DevOps & Infrastructure: Deploy and support containerised applications (Docker/Kubernetes) on Linux environments.
  
  
• Client Engagement: Facilitate FAT and UAT testing directly with client stakeholders.
  
  
• Agile Delivery: Collaborate in a Scrum team utilizing Git version control.
  
  

Minimum Requirements: 

• Education: Degree in BSc Computer Science, BSc IT, or a related field.
  
  
• Experience: 4–6 years of commercial Java development experience.
  
  
• Tech Stack: Java/J2EE, Spring, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux/Bash, RabbitMQ/ActiveMQ, Git, and Postman.
  
  
  
• Database Skills: Deep SQL capabilities across multiple relational database engines.
  
  
• Nice to Have
  
  
  • Telecoms BSS/OSS domain experience.
    
    
  • Apache Camel, Oracle PL/SQL, or APEX.
    
    
  • Basic web technologies (HTML/CSS).
