About the position
We are looking for an experienced Cloud & Infrastructure Manager who combines strong hands-on AWS and/or Microsoft Azure experience with a solid understanding of IT infrastructure and operational environments.
The ideal candidate will have experience designing, implementing, maintaining and supporting cloud and infrastructure systems within a manufacturing, production, warehouse or distribution-centre environment. This is not a purely management-focused role, the successful candidate must understand the technology at an operational level and be comfortable working with technical teams, vendors and business stakeholders.
The role will be responsible for ensuring that cloud and infrastructure environments are reliable, secure, scalable, cost-effective and fit for a high-availability operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain AWS and/or Azure cloud environments.
- Manage and support hybrid environments incorporating cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Ensure infrastructure and cloud platforms are highly available, reliable and scalable.
- Maintain systems supporting manufacturing, production, warehouse or distribution-centre operations.
- Work closely with operational and business teams to ensure technology supports critical business processes.
- Monitor infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks and systems and proactively identify potential issues.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, performance management and capacity planning.
- Manage infrastructure upgrades, migrations, implementations and technology improvements.
- Ensure appropriate backup, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities are in place and regularly tested.
- Apply security, patching, vulnerability management and configuration-hardening practices across infrastructure and cloud environments.
- Manage cloud costs and identify opportunities for cost optimisation, rightsizing and improved resource utilisation.
- Work with technology vendors, service providers and cloud providers.
- Investigate recurring infrastructure issues and drive root-cause resolution.
- Support incident management and participate in major incident resolution when required.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure standards, documentation and operational procedures.
- Ensure infrastructure changes are properly planned, implemented and controlled.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to infrastructure and technical teams.
- Contribute to technology strategy, infrastructure roadmaps and continuous improvement initiatives.
Important Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is not simply an Infrastructure Manager who oversees a team.
We are specifically looking for someone who has strong AWS and/or Azure experience and has personally been involved in setting up, implementing, maintaining and supporting these environments. Experience in a manufacturing, production, warehouse or distribution-centre environment is particularly important, as the infrastructure must support operationally critical systems where uptime, reliability, connectivity and rapid issue resolution are essential.
Candidates coming purely from traditional infrastructure management, with limited practical cloud experience, would not be suitable.
RequirementsEssential Experience
- 7–10 years' experience in infrastructure and/or cloud environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
- Proven experience setting up, implementing and maintaining cloud and infrastructure environments, rather than only managing them at a high level.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, production, warehouse, logistics or distribution-centre environment is highly desirable and will be a key consideration.
- Experience supporting business-critical operational systems in environments where availability and reliability are essential.
- Strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure — cloud and on-premises.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring, performance optimisation and capacity planning.
- Experience with security, vulnerability management, patching and infrastructure hardening.
- Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Experience managing cloud costs and implementing cost-optimisation initiatives.
- At least 3–5 years' leadership or people-management experience.
- Strong vendor and third-party service-provider management experience.
- Experience working with IT service-management processes and frameworks.
