Location: Honeydew, JHB
Job Purpose
The Spray Painter will be responsible for preparing, priming, and spray-painting machinery, components, and equipment to ensure a high-quality finish that meets company and industry standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining our brand reputation for durable and aesthetically excellent products.
Key Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 (essential).
- Trade Certificate / Relevant Spray-Painting Qualification
- Training in automotive or industrial spray-painting techniques is highly desirable
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as an industrial spray painter, preferably in heavy machinery, construction equipment, or automotive manufacturing.
- Experience working in a high-volume production environment will be advantageous
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of spray-painting techniques, equipment, and materials.
- Ability to prepare and finish surfaces to a high standard.
- Knowledge of color matching, mixing, and coating specifications.
- Familiarity with heavy-duty machinery is an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong time management and ability to meet production deadlines.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Strict adherence to workplace health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safe storage practices.
- Competent in using PPE, ventilation systems, and fire-safety measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces of machinery, components, and assemblies for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming.
- Apply primers, base coats, and topcoats using spray-painting techniques to achieve the required finish.
- Mix paints, coatings, and materials according to specifications, ensuring correct color matching and consistency.
- Conduct inspections to ensure surfaces are properly prepared and paint applications meet the company’s quality standards.
- Maintain spray-painting equipment, spray booths, and tools in good working order.
- Identify and report any defects or quality concerns during the painting process.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, PPE usage, and health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate closely with production, quality assurance, and assembly teams to ensure deadlines are met.
- Keep accurate records of paint usage, stock levels, and maintenance activities.
