About the position

Red Ember Recruitment is seeking to hire a Imports Coordinator based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, to join their team.

To manage the full import process within the Supply Chain department, ensuring the efficient coordination of international shipments and compliance with all customs and regulatory requirements. Oversee communication with agents, transporters, and warehouses to secure timely and accurate delivery of goods. Support the Supply Chain Director and Buyers by tracking purchase orders, verifying supplier documentation, and preparing import files for customs clearance. Ensure cost accuracy, maintain up-to-date shipping schedules, and uphold ISO and SARS compliance standards. Have a significant impact on the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of the company’s import operations within a fast-paced supply chain environment.


Responsibilities

  • Liaising with agents, transporters, and warehouses to coordinate deliveries (including LCL and airfreight).
  • Tracking shipments and confirming supplier details and order confirmations.
  • Preparing and submitting all import documentation to clearing agents timeously.
  • Ensuring all Incoterms, PO numbers, payment and shipping terms are correct.
  • Completing import costings, buying foreign exchange, and maintaining up-to-date shipping schedules.
  • Checking agent invoices, VAT, duty, and HS codes.
  • Updating Syspro and the shipping schedule.
  • Ensuring payment documents are submitted on time and processed correctly.
  • Maintaining filing and document control.
  • Adherence to ISO and Customs processes.
  • Ensuring readiness for SARS audits and related compliance requirements.


Requirements
  • Matric (Grade 12) – Essential.
  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Imports/Exports, or Logistics – Preferred.
  • 4–6 years’ hands-on experience in forwarding, shipping, customs, and warehousing.
  • Strong background working with transporters, freight forwarders, and logistics.
  • Experience in a multinational or high-volume import environment is advantageous.

Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of Incoterms and import processes.
  • Understanding of IATA dangerous goods shipments.
  • Strong numeracy and Excel proficiency.
  • Accuracy and diligence with data and systems.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple priorities.

Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability.
  • Proactive, customer-focused, and able to work both independently and in a team.
  • Organized, diligent, and quality-oriented.
