IMPORTS & EXPORTS CONTROLLER
Role Purpose
Ensure full compliance and costefficient management of all import, export, and crossborder activities, including tariff classification, valuation, origin, duty/rebate management, Incoterms 2020 governance, and broker performance.
Key Responsibilities
Customs & Compliance
• Tariff classification and duty determination; maintain accurate HS codes and rates.
• Manage customs brokers: correct entries, postclearance queries, audit readiness.
• Obtain import/export permits and ensure correct shipping documentation.
• Oversee Incoterms® 2020 alignment to avoid hidden costs.
• Manage certificates and rules of origin to optimise duty exposure.
• Ensure timely preclearing to prevent delays.
Shipping, Logistics & Expediting
• Coordinate international and crossborder shipments, including consolidation to reduce cost.
• Monitor shipping lead times, supplier dispatch dates, and delivery accuracy.
• Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, warehouse, and internal departments.
• Resolve nonconformance issues and investigate freight price discrepancies.
• Provide urgent support to production and branches when required.
• Maintain complete documentation packs for finance and audit.
Performance, Reporting & Cost Control
• Maintain KPIs:
o 98% ontime clearance
o Zero customs penalties
o Planned shipping lead times achieved
• Track broker performance and shipping efficiency.
• Identify costsaving opportunities in freight, mode selection, and consolidation.
• Generate weekly shipment and backorder reports.
• Maintain accurate databases for shipments, specifications, and costsaving metrics.
Qualifications & Experience
• Grade 12 plus a relevant Diploma/Certificate (International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain, Import/Export, Freight Forwarding, Business Admin).
• 3+ years’ procurement experience in import/export.
• Strong customs clearing knowledge and understanding of clearing costs.
• Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, and Excel.
• Expertise in Incoterms® 2020, HS codes, duties, VAT, rebates, BOL/AWB, SAD500.
• Knowledge of international shipping, FX, freight forwarding, and compliance.
• Ability to work independently under pressure with strong attention to detail.
• Technical aptitude; mining industry exposure beneficial.
Remuneration:
R20,000.00 plus medical aid and provident fund
