About the position
A leading logistics and transportation company specializing in maritime and shipping services is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Import Clerk to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced environment where efficiency, accuracy, and customer service are key.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle counter duties, including receipt and processing of documents
- Validate original Bills of Lading
- Liaise with clients and provide excellent customer service
- Reconcile payments for receipting
- Receive and acknowledge release documents
- Capture release documents and forward to the Account Manager for final release
- Expedite agent haulage releases for early delivery instructions
- Identify and notify customers to expedite release of direct delivery and reefer shipments
- Inform customers of overstay deadlines and ensure surrender of documents prior to vessel ETB
- Follow up on uncleared containers to prevent transfer to state warehouse
- Arrange movement of uncleared containers to depot before last free day at terminal
- Process invoices accurately and efficiently
- Assist in resolving client queries
- Operate and utilize Navis systems
- Process carrier haulage instructions
- File and attach all release documentation for acquittals
- Support Customer Service Shipping (CSS) functions during peak periods or staff absence
- Ensure all emails are attended to and acknowledged daily
Minimum Requirements
- Previous experience in imports, shipping, or logistics (maritime experience advantageous)
- Matric
- Attention to detail, strict adherence to rules and regulation
- Good Interpersonal skills
- Admin orientated
- Strong Computer and communication skills (MS Word, Excel, Navis, Outlook)
- Planning and organising skills
- Professional Candidate to deal with third parties at all levels
- Able to get to the office before 08h00 everyday (punctual, self-disciplined)
- Individual needs to be accountable and responsible under minimum supervision
- Be a team player and able to work closely with colleagues under pressure and meet deadlines
- Prepared to work extended hours and weekends when needed
