About the position

Postion Summary:
The SAEON Fynbos Node seeks an Intern on a 12 Months programme to assist with mobilising historical hydrological data stored in the Fynbos Node archive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digitise and mobilise hydrology data in the SAEON Fynbos Node data archivePrepare analysis ready dataCurate datasets for uploading to the SAEON Observation database portalLearn about the data collection processContribute to website development through blog post or news articlesSupport fieldwork and in field data collectionUpdate hydrology data setsWork with data stakeholders

Minimum Qualification:
  • Masters Degree / NQF 9

Minimum Experience:
  • 0-1 years
  • MSc degree in Hydrology or Environmental Sciences or similarValid Code B-driver's license will be advantageous

Experience:
  • Demonstrable technical, analytical, and practical skills related to hydrological or ecological sciences Data management and data analysisStrong understanding of hydrological processes and instruments

Knowledge:
  • Good scientific skills (writing, communication)Ability to analyse data and experience in statistical packages like R, Python, or similarUnderstanding of Hydrological principles or Hydrology modelsDevelopment of web applications for visualising data will be beneficialFamiliarity with SAEON data
