About the position
Our client, a leading logistics and supply chain solutions provider, is seeking a proactive and hands-on HSEQ Officer to join their Durban operation.
The successful candidate will primarily support food-grade warehouse operations, while also providing HSEQ support across transport and logistics operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being out in the operation, conducting inspections, engaging with employees and contractors, and ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality and Food Safety standards are maintained.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Health & Safety Certificate (essential).
- Minimum 2-4 years' HSEQ, SHEQ or Safety Officer experience.
- Previous experience conducting site inspections, incident investigations and supporting audit preparation.
- Experience within logistics, warehousing, transport or supply chain operations.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Good computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
- Willingness to travel between operational sites as required.
- Willingness to work overtime or after hours when operational requirements dictate.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily HSEQ inspections across warehouse, yard and operational areas.
- Identify, report and follow up on hazards, unsafe acts, incidents and near misses.
- Assist with incident investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor compliance with HSEQ procedures, site rules and PPE requirements.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings and employee/contractor inductions.
- Support internal and external audit preparation by maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Complete HSEQ reports, registers, inspections and compliance checklists.
- Monitor housekeeping, hygiene, waste management, spill control and environmental compliance.
- Support food safety, hygiene, product protection and quality standards within food-grade warehouse operations.
- Monitor contractor and driver compliance with site requirements.
- Assist with risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
Highly Advantageous
- SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification.
- Experience within an FMCG, food manufacturing or food-grade warehousing environment.
- Knowledge of food safety systems, hygiene standards, HACCP, GMP, PRPs and product protection.
- Exposure to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience working with contractor management and transport operations.
