About the position
We are looking for an experienced HR Officer to join a well established, expanding company in the manufacturing industry.
Location: Durban South
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
Recruitment & Onboarding:
- Manage recruitment processes across various functions, including shop-floor, technical, and administrative roles.
- Conduct interviews, reference checks, and onboarding programs tailored for the manufacturing environment.
Employee Relations & Industrial Relations:
- Act as a liaison between management, employees, and union representatives.
- Administer disciplinary procedures, manage grievances, and prepare documentation for CCMA cases.
- Interpret and apply MIBCO Main Agreement and ensure timely and accurate MIBCO returns.
Policy Implementation:
- Implementing and enforcing HR policies and procedures.
- Educating employees and managers on policies and labour practices.
- Ensuring consistent application of disciplinary and workplace policies.
HR Compliance & Labour Legislation:
- Ensure full compliance with South African labour laws (LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDA).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records.
- Prepare reports for Department of Labour, CCMA, MIBCO, and other regulatory bodies.
Health, Safety & Injury-on-Duty:
- Coordination of Injury-on-Duty (COID) claims and follow-ups.
- Maintaining accident, incident, and medical surveillance records.
- Supporting OHSA compliance and audits (even if SHEQ leads).
- Monitoring absenteeism related to workplace injuries or illness.
Training Administration:
Coordinating mandatory training (IR, safety, compliance).
Tracking training attendance and certifications linked to performance issues.
Payroll Support:
- Capture and verify employee payroll data (new hires, terminations, salary changes).
- Process payroll inputs including overtime, allowances, deductions, and leave.
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with statutory deductions (PAYE, UIF, SDL, pension, medical aid).
- Liaise with finance and payroll service providers where applicable.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll information.
Leave & Attendance Management:
- Administration of annual, sick, family responsibility, and maternity leave.
- Monitoring absenteeism and excessive leave trends.
- Supporting shift and overtime compliance with BCEA.
Performance Management
- Coordinate bi-annual and annual performance appraisal cycles.
- Support line managers in addressing performance issues and implementing development plans.
Exit & Termination Administration
- Managing resignations, dismissals, and retrenchments from an HR administration perspective.
- Conducting exit interviews.
- Preparing UIF documentation and certificates of service.
- Analysing turnover trends.
HR Reporting & Administration
- Maintain and report on key HR metrics (e.g., absenteeism, turnover, productivity).
- Ensure accurate use and maintenance of HRIS, time and attendance systems, and personnel files.
- Assist with workforce planning and budgeting activities.
- Support HR audits and compliance inspections.
- Provide HR administrative support to management and employees.
- Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical HR practices.
