Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resources Manager to lead and manage the organisation's people and culture function. The successful candidate will be responsible for HR strategy, governance, employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, performance management, compliance, organisational development, and HR reporting.
The role will work closely with Executive Management and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation, company policies, governance requirements, and HR best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the HR strategy, workforce planning, talent acquisition, succession planning, and talent development initiatives in alignment with business objectives.
  • Oversee the full recruitment and onboarding process, including recruitment governance, vetting, qualification verification, reference checks, workforce planning, and reporting on vacancies, time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and attrition.
  • Provide strategic and operational guidance on employee relations, including disciplinary, incapacity, grievance, and dispute processes, ensuring compliance with the Labour Relations Act and company disciplinary procedures.
  • Represent the organisation at CCMA or relevant Bargaining Council proceedings and manage external labour law advisors when required.
  • Coach and advise line managers on employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, and the correct application of HR procedures.
  • Own the annual performance management and talent review cycles, including Performance Improvement Plans and employee development initiatives.
  • Manage learning and development programmes, leadership development, coaching interventions, the Workplace Skills Plan, Annual Training Report, and relevant SETA submissions.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits administration, including remuneration benchmarking, pay-equity reviews, annual increases, incentive processes, medical aid, retirement funds, and benefit service providers.
  • Ensure payroll and benefits processes comply with applicable legislation and company requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with South African labour legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, POPIA, and internal HR policies.
  • Develop, review, and implement HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and disciplinary processes.
  • Manage Employment Equity reporting, the Employment Equity Committee, and transformation initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, registers, controls, and documentation in support of ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 requirements and internal/external audits.
  • Lead organisational development, restructuring, change management, and people-related transformation initiatives.
  • Develop employee engagement and wellness programmes and monitor absenteeism, incapacity, employee wellness, and psychosocial risk indicators.
  • Maintain the HR people-risk register and report on mitigation actions to Executive Management.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly HR reports covering headcount, turnover, retention, absenteeism, recruitment, transformation, and other workforce metrics.
  • Prepare HR and people-related reports and inputs for Executive Management and Board meetings.
  • Ensure confidential employee and remuneration information is processed and maintained lawfully in accordance with POPIA and information security requirements.
  • Provide objective, evidence-based HR advice to Executive Management and maintain appropriate HR governance and controls.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Honours qualification preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years' HR generalist experience, with at least 3 years at HR Management level.
  • Proven experience with direct accountability for employee relations and dispute resolution.
  • Strong working knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR compliance requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of labour relations and dispute resolution practices.
  • Experience advising Executive Management on HR and people-related matters.
  • Experience preparing HR reports and information for Executive Management and/or Board level.
  • Experience with HR software, HR analytics, and workforce data.
  • Experience in professional services, engineering, consulting, or technology environments will be advantageous.
  • Registration with SABPP as an HR Professional, or eligibility for registration, will be preferred.
  • Formal labour law or industrial relations certification will be advantageous.
  • A recognised management or leadership development programme will be advantageous.

  • Courage to provide independent, evidence-based advice to management.

The ideal candidate will be a senior HR professional with strong generalist and employee relations experience and the ability to operate at both a strategic and operational level.
The successful candidate must be confident in advising Executive Management, managing complex employee relations matters, interpreting South African labour legislation, and implementing HR strategies that support business objectives.
The role requires a professional who can balance people management, business requirements, compliance, governance, and organisational development, while maintaining confidentiality, objectivity, fairness, and professional integrity.
