House Manager / Butler

About the position

A leading private residential estate is looking for an experienced House Manager / Butler with strong experience in private households, front of house service, staff management and hands-on household operations to join their team in Noordhoek. This is a senior, live-in position at a privately owned residence with extensive gardens and grounds, multiple guest houses and a dedicated household and garden team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining exceptional service standards, assisting with household operations and ensuring guests receive attentive yet discreet service.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee household staff, including housekeepers and garden staff, ensuring standards are consistently maintained
  
  
• Provide hands-on support to the housekeeping team when required
  
  
• Set up and serve tables to an exceptional standard, with strong attention to detail
  
  
• Serve drinks, canapés and refreshments to residents and guests
  
  
• Provide attentive, discreet and professional front of house service
  
  
• Assist with hosting and guest requirements within the residence
  
  
• Support the smooth day-to-day running of the household and residence
  
  
• Undertake driving duties and work-related errands using the company vehicle
  
  
• Provide Personal Assistant support as required
  
  
• Maintain accurate records and prepare monthly reconciliations in Excel for the accountant
  
  
• Assist with seasonal events and additional household requirements when needed
  
  
• Work confidently around dogs and contribute to their care and wellbeing within the household environment
  
  

Requirements:

• Previous experience working in a private household is essential
  
  
• Previous staff management experience is essential
  
  
• Strong front of house and guest service experience
  
  
• Excellent table-setting and serving skills
  
  
• Confident and capable driver with a valid driver's licence
  
  
• Previous experience in a Butler, House Manager, Head Housekeeper or similar senior household position
  
  
• Chief Stewardess / Chief Stew experience would be highly advantageous
  
  
• Strong Personal Assistant and administrative skills
  
  
• Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  
  
• Excellent attention to detail
  
  
• Professional, discreet and service-oriented approach
  
  
• Comfortable working in a hands-on role
  
  
• Must be comfortable working with dogs
  
  
• Must be comfortable with a live-in position
  
  
• Must be willing to undergo full background checks and reference checks
  
  
• Strictly non-smoking position
