We are seeking a forward-thinking, high-performing academic leader to lead our Department of Emerging Technologies. This senior role combines academic and operational leadership, providing strategic direction for teaching, research, and curriculum delivery across contact and distance learning. The successful candidate will champion innovation, operational efficiency, and academic excellence, positioning the department at the forefront of emerging technology education.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Management
- Provide visionary leadership in teaching, research, and community engagement within the department.
- Collaborate with faculty leadership to define and execute departmental strategic goals.
- Drive curriculum innovation to balance theoretical foundations with industry-relevant applications.
- Develop and implement teaching and learning strategies for a diverse and evolving curriculum.
- Lead budgeting, resource allocation, and departmental performance management.
- Co-develop student success strategies focused on improving throughput and retention.
Operational & Academic Management
- Manage academic and support staff across multiple campuses and learning platforms.
- Oversee staff performance, professional development, and equitable workload distribution.
- Ensure high standards in assessment, moderation, and quality assurance across all programmes.
- Address staff and student queries, fostering a positive and supportive academic environment.
Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Development
- Teach 12-15 hours per week and maintain direct engagement with students.
- Lead the design and development of teaching materials reflecting current technological trends.
- Implement innovative teaching methodologies, including online and blended learning.
- Contribute to curriculum evaluation, continuous improvement, and academic transformation initiatives.
External Engagement & Partnerships
- Build strong relationships with industry stakeholders to enhance graduate employability.
- Engage with regulatory bodies, professional councils, and relevant industry associations.
- Support outreach, partnerships, and internationalisation efforts for the department.
Leadership & Governance
- Contribute to faculty performance, infrastructure, and strategic growth.
- Manage departmental budgets and ensure cost-effective programme delivery.
- Foster innovation, professional development, and a culture of continuous improvement among academic staff.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree in a relevant field; PhD (or significant progress) in an emerging technology discipline preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in higher education, including academic leadership within emerging technologies.
- Proven track record in research, scholarship, and publications (AI, data science, cybersecurity, or related fields).
- Experience lecturing 12-15 hours per week within multi-module programmes.
- Expertise in mentoring, coaching, and managing academic staff.
- Experience in quality assurance and assessment for contact and distance learning.
- Evidence of contributions to student success, retention, and postgraduate supervision.
- Professional registration with relevant industry bodies (where applicable).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with a results-driven, innovative approach.
