About the position
My client in the mining industry is looking for 6 HRW Verification Inspectors to join their Safety Team in Kathu, for an 12 month contract.
Reporting to the SHE Manager, the purpose of the role is to execute comprehensive high-risk work verification and advanced equipment integrity assessments to validate statutory and engineering compliance, mitigate operational risk, and ensure full technical readiness across all project execution phases.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce MHSA, SANS, and company safety and engineering standards across all project phases, including construction, commissioning, shutdowns, and high-risk work.
- Identify recurring defects, unsafe conditions, procedural gaps, and system failures, and escalate promptly to Project Engineers, Construction Managers, and Safety leads.
- Participate in project-specific risk reviews and contribute inspection insights to method statements, lifting studies, and HRW risk assessments.
Inspection and Verification
- Conduct HRWV inspections in line with statutory and company project procedures for lifting, working at heights, confined spaces, energised work, and mobile equipment usage.
- Perform daily and scheduled inspections of lifting equipment, tools, machinery, rigging gear, and temporary project equipment.
- Verify equipment condition and statutory compliance before use, especially during high-intensity project stages such as shutdowns and critical path activities.
- Document findings through project logs, inspection checklists, and compliance reports with a strong emphasis on traceability and evidence-based decision making.
Technical Support
- Provide inputs into rigging and lifting plans, temporary works designs, and engineering reviews under guidance from Engineers or Lifting Specialists.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project deliverables to ensure accurate alignment between planned and actual conditions.
- Recommend corrective actions when equipment, structures, or environmental conditions could impact project safety or progress
Documentation & Compliance Records Management
- Maintain fully traceable inspection records-including defect logs, HRWV checklists, and equipment compliance reports-in alignment with project documentation protocols.
- Apply controlled document-handling practices, ensuring correct metadata, version control, and submission workflows for all inspection artefacts.
- Upload, catalogue, and archive evidentiary documentation (photos, NCR's, OEM certificates, calibration records) in authorised systems such as EDMS, Aconex, or SharePoint.
- Validate contractor documentation packs-registers, calibration certificates, statutory reports-for accuracy and completeness before mobilisation.
- Support audit readiness by ensuring documentation sets are structured, quality-assured, and rapidly retrievable.
- Identify and escalate documentation gaps or expired compliance artefacts to the relevant project authority.
- Feed verified inspection outputs into project reporting tools, including risk logs, readiness dashboards, and QA/QC repositories.
Operational & Project Readiness
- Conduct pre-task readiness assessments to ensure work fronts meet all compliance requirements before execution.
- Support rapid project mobilisation by performing timely equipment verification and ensuring contractors meet onboarding compliance standards.
- Increase inspection frequency during shutdowns, critical lifts, and compressed-timeline project phases.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Construction Supervisors, Project Engineers, Master Artisans, Safety teams, and EPCM/Contractor partners to resolve inspection-related issues.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally, ensuring project teams understand both risk and required corrective actions.
