Health & Safety Officer - Solar PV | Virginia, Free State
Overview
Join the execution team of a 240MW solar PV plant in Virginia, Free State, as a Health & Safety Officer.
This site-based role is critical to ensuring compliance with all safety standards and legislation during the construction phase. The project is part of South Africa's drive toward clean energy infrastructure, and your contribution will directly impact the safe, successful rollout of this large-scale solar development.
What You'll Do
- Implement and monitor compliance with the project's Health & Safety Plan in alignment with OHSA and construction regulations
- Conduct daily site inspections and enforce corrective actions for non-compliance
- Perform HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments) and update safety files regularly
- Lead toolbox talks, induction sessions, and safety awareness training for all site personnel
- Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and ensure appropriate follow-up and preventative measures
- Liaise with contractors, site managers, and auditors on all health and safety matters
- Maintain accurate records, statutory registers, and documentation for audits and inspections
- Report to the Site HSE Manager and work closely with the EPC team and subcontractors
What We're Looking For
- SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO) is mandatory
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in Health & Safety roles on utility-scale solar PV projects
- Strong understanding of HIRA, OHS Act, Construction Regulations, and environmental compliance
- Relevant qualifications in Health & Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NOSA, HIRA, Incident Investigation)
- Proven experience conducting site safety audits, compiling safety files, and managing contractor compliance
- Must be willing to be based full-time on site in Virginia, Free State
- Ability to work in a high-pressure construction environment with multiple stakeholders
