About the position
We are seeking a Health and Safety Manager/ Food Safety Manager to oversee all aspects of health and safety within our organization. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing policies, conducting risk assessments, and training staff.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct food safety training for staff and senior management (Internal and outsourced).
- Manage, maintain, and continuously improve the food safety management system.
- Review, update, and implement policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Ensure factory compliance with Halaal (monthly audits), R638, Trade License, and gas/flam-mable substance
- regulations.
- Coordinate store compliance: apply for R638 and trade licenses with relevant municipalities.
- Conduct internal and external audits across regions.
- Coordinate Global Audit requirements and internal audits with relevant national managers.
- Ensure hygiene standards are met and sustained across all operations.
- Ensure adherence to GMP, Sanitation SOPs, and allergen management protocols.
- Verify incoming raw materials and ensure all required documentation is received.
- Trend and analyze customer complaints, micro results, and corrective actions.
- Assist with investigations linked to customer complaints.
- Oversee ordering of cleaning equipment and monitor usage.
- Ensure all testing equipment (thermometers, Testo units, scales) are calibrated and compliant.
- Oversee quality control documentation and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Manage supplier accreditation in line with company and food safety requirements.
- Handle leave planning, staff scheduling/rostering, and disciplinary actions for the QA/H&S team.
- Liaise with chemical suppliers, pest control providers, testing laboratories, and the laundry service provider.
- Manage waste programs, arrange collections, and review sustainability reports
- Oversee ordering of PPE for factory staff.
- Conduct monthly stock-takes on cleaning materials and consumables.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric
- B-Tech / Degree in Food Technology, Biotechnology, Consumer Science, or Environmental Health.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the FMCG / Food Industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with audit or compliance systems
- Internal Audit certificates are advantageous.
- FSSC certificate is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of food safety management systems, hygiene standards, and applicable legislation.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel across regions for audits.
- Ability to work long hours, weekends, public holidays, and at short notice when operationally required.
