Health and Safety Coordinator at South African Astronomical Observatory

About the position

The South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) is the National Facility for Optical and Infrared Astronomy of the National Research Foundation (NRF). Its headquarters are in Cape Town, while its telescopes are at Sutherland in the Northern [URL Removed] purpose of the post is to provide support in developing, implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system within the organisation. We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Health and Safety Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure a safe working environment.
• Facilitate site health and safety meetings
• Support in developing, implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system
• Health and safety training on siteIdentification of the hazards and risks relevant to the SAAO.
• Regular coordinated site inspections

Key Requirements:

Qualification:

• Higher Certificate in Health & Safety Management or equivalent
• Valid SACPCMP registration as a Candidate Health and Safety Officer

Experience:

• 3 years health and safety coordinator experience in Public Sector and National System of Innovation
• Code B driver's license

Knowledge:

• HIRA
• Health & Safety Management Systems
• Accident/incident Investigation Training
• COIDA Act Training
• ISO Systems
