About the position
We have an exciting new opportunity for an energetic individual in the FMCG / wheat industry to join our client's team in Bellville, Cape Town. The Head Storeman oversees all warehouse operations including product rotation, product storage, housekeeping, vehicle loading, and compliance with safety and food safety standards. This role includes supervision of store assistants, allocation of daily tasks and strict adherence to operational procedures. The Head Storeman will liaise closely with the Quality and Production Departments to ensure accurate stock flow, traceability, and timely rejection of non-compliant stock. Daily check sheets stock. Daily check sheets and records must be maintained and verified in the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
Duties & Responsibilities:

- Products:
- All storage of products must be strictly adhered to as described in document 4003 Quality procedure storage protocol
- Accurately record all stock movements using the Warehouse Management System
- Perform daily checks on inventory accuracy, traceability, and procedural compliance
- Products must be clearly identifiable
- Inspect quality of products in the holding area before accepting products into the warehouse
- Reject broken, Dirty, Wrong stacked products
- Document all stock flowing in or out of the warehouse on the Stock inventory program
- The placement of products must be done strictly according to the distribution manager's floor plan
- No products may be stored that are damaged, dirty or any form of contamination visible
- Products need to be rotated to maintain a first in / first out policy
- Rotation of products must be moved so that no product stays in the same place for more than three weeks
- Care must be taken that no storage of products creates a risk of security
- Stacking of pallets without protection in-between is not allowed
- For paper bags - Slip-sheet and board
- For Polypropylene bags - Slip-sheet and rubber sheet
- Housekeeping
- All empty pallets after loading must be removed immediately and sorted by type for production
- Good household practice must be followed "For everything a place and everything in its place."
- The storage must be kept in order and in a clean condition at all times
- Food Safety
- Any observation of a food safety hazard at the company should immediately be brought to the attention of the Distribution Manager
- All damaged pallets must be withdrawn from the system and taken to the workshop for repair
- Be familiar with the Food safety system as per Document 9004
- Be familiar with Pest Control document 8002
- Be careful and monitor the situation so that there is no contamination between current, damaged and returned products
- Warehouse Management System
- Assign picking orders to storemen on the WMS and ensure that they are completed
- Spot checking lines by stocktaking them and investigating when totals don't line up
- Printing reference labels for picking staff
- Allocating orders to the system to be assigned to be picked
- Loading & Deliveries
- Loading of Vehicles
- No products may be dispatched which are damaged, dirty or where any form of contamination is visible
- It must be ensured that the truck's load compartment is clean before loading products
- Vehicle loading must be done accurately by invoice
- No loading takes place without an invoice
- Vehicle loading must be good and care must be taken to prevent damage to products
- The loading of vehicles must be under the supervision of the Manager, his assistant or Head Store Men at all times
- Drivers or their assistants may never load alone due to theft statistics
- Once the vehicle has been loaded, the redundant products must be placed in the warehouse immediately
- Safety & Equipment Oversight
- Vehicles
- The loading of loads must be done in such a way that no safety hazard would occur
- Pallet trolleys
- Ensure that no unauthorized person may drive pallet trolleys
- Document 1048 Operating Procedure BT Pallet jack
- Ensure that authorized operators do not use the pallet trolleys unsafely
- Forklift
- Forklift may not do any unsafe maneuvers on site, especially not speeding
- Forklift may only be operated by someone with an authorized forklift license
- Packaging
- Make sure stacking is done safely
- Document 9042 Procedure for stacking three pallets
- Make sure workers do not overdo themselves by e.g. To pick up 50kg of bags alone
- Production & Quality Coordination
- Production Department
- Communicate what stock is being manufactured and what stock is required
- Confirm the timely supply of raw materials or packaging as needed
- Notify and arrange for the rejection or return of non-compliant products
- Ensure alignment between production planning and warehouse capacity
- Quality Department
- Liaise with the Quality Department regarding Certificates of Analysis (COAs), pest control, and other compliance procedures
- Report all food safety risks and ensure corrective actions are implemented

- Any inquiries by staff in respect of distribution, stock, or distribution functions to inform distribution manager
Requirements:
- Matric
- Tertiary qualification (advantageous)
- Solid experience as a Head Storeman / Management
- Knowledge and experience within the wheat / FMCG industry
- Driver's licence
- Computer literacy
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong Organisation Skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data management
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
