Head of Road Freight & IWS

About the position

As the Head of Road Freight & IWS, you will have full strategic and operational responsibility for the Road Freight product and IWS business across South Africa and BLNS (Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland). This is a senior appointment where you will drive profitability, lead a team, and develop cross-border solutions for key accounts.

The Ideal Candidate:

• ESSENTIAL: Minimum 10 years’ experience in the logistics industry, with a focus on Road Freight
  
  
• ESSENTIAL: At least 8 years of management experience in a reputable Road Freight organization
  
  
• ESSENTIAL: In-depth knowledge of Road Freight product and Integrated Warehousing Solutions
  
  
• ESSENTIAL: Excellent commercial acumen and geographical knowledge of Southern Africa
  
  
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and people management skills are a must
  
  
• A Degree in Business Management or a related field is required
  
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute the business strategy to maximize profit and optimize assets in line with global objectives
  
  
• Lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and cost-consciousness
  
  
• Oversee all aspects of operations, including carrier negotiations, traffic management, and cost analysis.
  
  
• Drive business development, identify new customer opportunities, and maintain relationships with key accounts
  
  
• Manage the EBIT result and ensure all operational KPIs are met
  
  
• Oversee the Integrated Warehousing Solutions function, liaising with sales on bids, RFQs, and customer presentations
  
  

This position is strictly for individuals with a proven track record in the logistics and freight forwarding sector. Applications from generalist sales or non-industry managers will not be considered.
