Head of Operations (Manufacturing/FMCG)

About the position

Opportunity to join an International company headquartered in South Africa, as their Head of Operations. This role is based within their Plant (East Rand, Gauteng).

 

This person will be responsible for strategically and practically contributing to the overall continuous improvement of daily operations, implement and maintain where necessary a best-in-class manufacturing operation as well as lead and contribute to projects identification, development and implementation.

 

This is a senior “hands-on” role. The Head of Operations will spend the majority of their time within the Plant environment.

This role leads a diverse team of process engineers, project managers and maintenance team in a fast-paced, technical production environment.

Specifically, the Head of Operations will be required to:

• Implement and maintain a best-in-class manufacturing and production operation.
• Draw on relationships with department heads, business partners and suppliers to make decisions regarding operational activities and goals.
• Ensure the effective implementation of the company procurement strategy to support a manufacture to order and just in time business model.
• Ensure effective stock control throughout receiving, movement, dispatch and storing of inventory.
• Serve as primary point of contact for operational issues working to mitigate their impact on delivering on time and in full, including system, quality, procurement & maintenance issues.
• Lead and contribute to operations projects identification, development, and implementation.
• Identify performance improvement opportunities with their teams.
• Ensure compliance of all operations departments with company policies relating to health & safety and the quality management system.

 

Candidate should fulfil the following requirements:

• BSc Industrial Engineering, Commerce or Similar. Engineering degree from a leading university
• 10+ years FMCG experience in operations, production or packaging.
