About the position
Our client is seeking an accomplished emergency medicine professional to lead the clinical and operational performance of its Emergency Centre. This senior leadership opportunity is suited to an experienced practitioner with a proven track record in emergency medicine, clinical governance, and people management within the private healthcare sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and clinical leadership within the Emergency Centre.
- Lead, mentor, and manage Emergency Centre practitioners to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
- Drive quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives to promote clinical excellence and patient safety.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate clinical and operational risks.
- Analyse clinical data, audits, and operational reports to support business objectives and service improvement.
- Participate in organisational strategies, projects, and service development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare legislation, clinical governance standards, and organisational policies.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and excellence in emergency care.
Minimum Qualifications
- MB BCh or MB ChB qualification.
- Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (Dip PEC) or MSc/MPhil in Emergency Medicine (Essential).
- MMed in Emergency Medicine or MMed in Family Medicine (FCEM/FCFP) will be advantageous.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Minimum Experience
- Minimum of three years' experience working within a private sector Emergency Centre.
- At least one year's supervisory or management experience within an emergency healthcare environment.
- Previous leadership experience within an Emergency Centre will be advantageous.
Required Knowledge & Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of legislation governing the South African healthcare sector, including the Health Professions Act, National Health Act, Mental Health Care Act, Children's Act, and Patients' Rights Charter.
- Sound understanding of HPCSA ethical rules, regulations, and professional guidelines.
- In-depth knowledge of private healthcare operations and Emergency Centre clinical governance.
- Proficiency in the South African Triage Scale (SATS).
- Advanced Life Support certifications, including Cardiac, Paediatric, and Trauma Life Support.
- Knowledge of disaster preparedness and major incident management.
- Experience with advanced emergency procedures, including airway management, procedural sedation, and point-of-care ultrasound.
- Strong analytical, report writing, and data interpretation skills.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management abilities.
