About the position
Background:
- Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences
- WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics
Main purpose of the job:
- Lead the strategic direction, development and operation of the organization's IT infrastructure and systems ensuring that these support the organisations goals, improves operational efficiency and are secure and compliant with regulations
Location:
Key performance areas:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with the organization’s objectives
- Work with the Finance department to develop an IT budget and manage adherence to the budget guidelines
- Proactively identify and resolve ongoing IT needs and challenges by providing suitable and cost effective solutions
- Ensure that the organisations ERP systems function well and system integration is optimal and effective
- Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, protocols and governance frameworks
- Provide guidance and support to the IT security team to strengthen risk identification and mitigation processes
- Monitor security risks, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with data protection laws and cybersecurity standards. (e.g., POPIA, ISO)
- Lead IT audits, specifically, kick off meetings and close out of findings
- Flag non adherence to any compliance regulations and take remedial action where necessary to address system deficiencies
- Manage service providers and suppliers in line with SLA requirements and ensure that the organisations need are prioritised and met
- Lead and develop the IT team, including managers, technicians, and support staff
Required minimum education, training and work experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 10 years of IT experience, with at least 3 years in a senior management role
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Proven experience in infrastructure management, cybersecurity and project implementation
- Relevant certifications (CGEIT, Microsoft, ITIL, PMP, CISSP, CISM, ISO) are advantageous
- In depth knowledge of system architecture, cloud computing, cybersecurity and enterprise applications
