About the position

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To lead and accelerate the Bank's transition into a digitally enabled organisation by driving
transformation initiatives that leverage Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) tools, Artificial
Intelligence, data-driven decision making, and innovative technologies. The role ensures
alignment of digital programmes with business strategy, embeds agile ways of working, and
supports the delivery of modern solutions that enhance efficiency, customer experience, and
competitiveness. The incumbent acts as a catalyst for innovation, future-readiness, and
sustainable digital adoption across the Bank.
The role is accountable for developing, maintaining and overseeing the effective execution of
the the company Digital Business Strategy - an actionable plan that orchestrates both the frontand
back-stage assets of the company, balancing short- and longer-term initiatives to fuel
technology-led business transformation, digital innovation that wows stakeholders, and
sustainable business growth.

The key areas of responsibility of the Digital Business Strategist include:

  • Diagnosing the state of our market, business and technology capabilities
  • Developing a digital business vision and blueprint for our desired future state
  • Developing a bold, yet achievable implementation plan

Key Performance Areas

Diagnosing the state of our market, business and technology capabilities

  • Analysing the the company business value chain and strategy, reported performance and highlevel
  • business operating model
  • Collating, contextualizing and analysing relevant industry, customer & competitor insights -
  • identifying digital strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • Interviewing leadership / management stakeholders in key business portfolios
  • Analysing the state of our product / brand portfolio and customer experiences
  • Evaluating current and planned digital initiatives
  • Reviewing business and technology architecture (systems / data)
  • Reviewing our technology operating model and capabilities
  • Evaluating our digital governance, risk & compliance capabilities
  • Evaluate the digital readiness of our people
  • Identifying pockets of digital excellence & surface risks
  • Analysing our use of digital partners & technology service providers

Developing a digital business vision and blueprint for our desired future state:

  • Facilitating strategy setting, visioning and/or ideation workshops and experiences with key stakeholders
  • Summarizing key industry, customer and competitor insights
  • Developing digital business end-game, growth hypothesis, vision & principles
  • Crafting a digital business blueprint
  • Defining the digital product blueprint and opportunities
  • Outlining business and technology platform design principles
  • Developing a digital architecture blueprint
  • Developing digital people blueprint & principles
  • Designing future state technology capabilities and the delivery ecosystem including sourcing model

Developing a bold, yet achievable implementation plan:

  • Defining and sequencing digital business transformation initiatives
  • Outlining a high-level digital business investment plan (quantitative and qualitative benefits case)
  • Developing a digital business implementation plan

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Build partnerships with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on digital initiatives.
  • Engage external partners, vendors, and industry networks for innovation opportunities.
  • Act as a change ambassador to drive cultural adoption of digital solutions.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure governance and risk management are embedded in digital programmes
  • Monitor compliance with PFMA, IT policies, and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Provide oversight for ethical use of emerging technologies.

Preferred Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or Information Technology and /or business and/or related fields
  • International professional certifications relevant to the review / assessment / audit of technology and/or business processes such as CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor).
  • Proven Digital strategy development skills
  • Proven experience leading and implementing digital transformation projects
  • Proficiency in crafting digital business investment (quantative and qualitative business case)
  • Track record in applying agile methodologies within large organisations
  • Experience in c-suite stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
  • High proficiency in executive reporting and engaging
  • Experience in shifting mindsets

Additional Requirements

  • High profieciency in executive reporting
