About the position
Our client, a well-established business in the credit and payments industry, is looking to appoint a commercially astute Head of Collections to lead and further develop a strategic collections function during its next phase of growth.
This is a senior leadership role for an experienced collections professional who can balance strong cash recovery with fair customer outcomes, regulatory compliance, digital innovation and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and executing a modern, data-led collections strategy, leading large-scale operations and building a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a customer-centric collections strategy.
- Lead end-to-end collections operations across all channels.
- Drive performance against key metrics, including yield, roll rates, productivity and cost-to-collect.
- Use data, segmentation and predictive analytics to optimise recovery strategies.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives, including automation, self-service and omnichannel engagement.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, arrears, write-offs and financial risks.
- Build and lead a high-performing, accountable collections team.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, including NCA, POPIA and Labour Law.
- Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, external agencies, service providers and regulators.
Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification, ideally in Commerce, Business Management or a related field.
- Up to 10 years’ operations experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ senior leadership experience within collections.
- Proven experience managing large-scale collections operations, preferably in a contact centre environment.
- Strong financial management, analytics and performance optimisation experience.
- Experience in digital transformation, automation or collections technology initiatives.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
