About the position
Our client in the mining industry is seeking a highly experienced Group Mineral Reserve Mining Engineer to oversee long-term and annual life-of-mine planning and Mineral Reserve Estimation. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with SAMREC and other reporting standards, develop internal reserve estimation capabilities, and provide technical mine planning solutions for operational, reconciliation, and ad hoc projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead long-term and medium-term mine planning cycles to support strategic and operational objectives.
- Develop, enhance, and implement mine planning policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Prepare and update annual Long-Term Plans (LTP), Medium-Term Plans (MTP), and Life-of-Mine strategies.
- Conduct SAMREC-compliant Mineral Reserve Estimations and serve as Competent Person where applicable.
- Reconcile actual performance versus plan and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain Mineral Reserve databases and ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with reporting codes.
- Provide technical inputs for operational, management, and board-level reporting.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders across Mining, Planning, Technical, and Finance teams.
- Monitor departmental budgets and expenditure, ensuring cost-effective delivery of mine planning outputs.
- Support project execution, infrastructure planning, and equipment optimisation to improve operational performance.
Requirements
- BTech/BSc/BEng Degree (NQF 7) in Mining; MSc/MEng in MRM or equivalent advantageous.
- Membership with a professional body (ECSA / SAIMM).
- Recognised Competent Person for SAMREC/JORC or Qualified Person for NI 43-101.
- Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency is advantageous.
- Minimum 8-10 years' experience in long- and medium-term open-pit mine planning, including technical services exposure.
- Experience supervising technical or operational teams.
- Proficiency in mine planning and scheduling software; CAD, GIS, and survey packages advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of Mineral Reserve Modelling and Estimation, particularly Chrome and PGEs.
- Understanding of SAMREC/SAMVAL Codes, budgeting, financial management, and performance management.
