GIS Technologist

About the position

GIS Data Management:

• Collect, process, and analyse geospatial data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and integrity.

• Develop and maintain GIS databases, ensuring up-to-date and accessible data.

• Perform spatial analysis, including buffering, clipping, and feature relationship assessments.





Mapping and Visualization:



• Create high-quality maps, visualisations, and cartographic outputs to support project planning and decision-making.

• Process aerial and satellite imagery using photogrammetric techniques.





Civil Engineering Support (CAD & GIS Integration):



• Perform CAD drafting and design for civil engineering projects, including site plans, infrastructure layouts, and topographic maps.

• Utilise Bentley software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads) for efficient and accurate GIS and CAD-related tasks.

• Assist in topographic surveys and geospatial data extraction for engineering applications.

• Ensure accuracy and quality in GIS-based mapping, spatial analysis, and data visualization.

• Integrate GIS and CAD data effectively for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.





Project Support:

• Assist in the planning and execution of geospatial projects, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.

• Produce high-quality technical documentation, reports, and client deliverables.





Compliance:

- Compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

• SHE – Safety Health and Environment.

• QMS – Quality Management Systems.


Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

• Entry level position, but equivalent of at least 1 year of study or hands-on experience in GIS and civil CAD work is required.

• National Senior Certificate (Matric).

• Experience with remote sensing and spatial analysis techniques.

• Familiarity with 3D modelling and visualization tools.

• Certification in GIS



• Proficiency in GIS software and geospatial analysis tools.

• Strong experience with Bentley software products (MicroStation, OpenRoads).

• Familiarity with photogrammetry and remote sensing techniques.

• Understanding of spatial database management and geospatial data structures.

• Knowledge of 3D modelling and visualisation tools.

• Experience with GIS scripting and automation (Python, SQL, or similar).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in data processing.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
