Geographic Information Systems GIS Administrator / GIS Specialist
(New Zealand Opportunity)
We are recruiting on behalf of a New Zealand-based Council for an experienced GIS Administrator / GIS Specialist to join their Corporate Services division in a permanent full-time role.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong GIS professional with experience in enterprise GIS environments, spatial data management, systems integration, and infrastructure-related projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Administer and maintain the organisation’s corporate GIS platform and spatial data environment
• Ensure the integrity, accuracy, governance, and ongoing maintenance of spatial data and mapping systems
• Develop and support GIS solutions to assist operational delivery, infrastructure planning, reporting, and organisational decision-making
• Support integration between GIS platforms and enterprise systems
• Perform ETL processing, data migration, and spatial data transformation
• Configure and optimise GIS applications, web maps, dashboards, and online GIS services
• Provide GIS user support, troubleshooting, and training to internal stakeholders
• Work closely with operational teams, technical specialists, and external service providers to support spatial information requirements
• Assist with GIS-related projects aligned to the organisation’s Digital Transformation Strategy
• Support Civil Defence and emergency management GIS activities when required
Requirements
• Relevant tertiary qualification in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Spatial Science, Computer Science, or related field
• Proven experience working within an enterprise GIS environment
• Strong hands-on experience with:
o ArcGIS Enterprise
o ArcGIS Online
o Web and local mapping solutions
o SQL databases
o APIs and systems integration
o ETL processes and data pipelines
o FME technology
• Experience working with structured and unstructured spatial datasets
• Strong understanding of spatial data governance and GIS best practices
• Experience managing or delivering GIS-related projects
• Municipal, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or public sector experience highly advantageous
• Exposure to cloud-based GIS environments beneficial
