About the position
We are seeking a hands-on and reliable General Worker to join our client's team in the waste management
environment at their plant based in Blackheath, Cape Town for a 3-month contract. The role involves supporting
daily operations through a variety of manual and mechanical tasks to ensure the smooth running of the plant.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Sanding, grinding, and preparing surfaces for maintenance and/or painting
- Painting plant equipment and steel structures
- Drilling, cutting, and assembling mechanical parts and components
- Performing basic welding and fabrication tasks
- Assisting with the repair and installation of mechanical fittings and fixtures
- Supporting manual pumping and handling of waste materials
- Cleaning and maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas
- Following safety procedures and using appropriate PPE at all times
- Reporting faults, leaks, or mechanical issues to supervisors
- Assisting artisans and technicians during planned maintenance or repairs
Requirements:
- N4 Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other relevant qualification
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a construction, mechanical, or industrial environment
- Experience with tools such as grinders, drills, welders, and paint equipment
- Knowledge of mechanical repair, fitting, and maintenance
- Physically fit and comfortable performing manual labour
- Basic understanding of workplace health and safety practices
- Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions
