About the position
Our client, a leading chrome mining operation in Limpopo, is seeking to appoint a highly experienced and results-driven General Manager to lead its underground mine. This senior leadership role carries full operational, financial, and strategic accountability for the mine. The appointment may be made on either a permanent or consulting basis, depending on the candidate's profile and availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume full accountability for the safe and efficient operation of the underground mine.
- Carry the 4.1 legal appointment in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Drive a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with statutory requirements.
- Oversee production, engineering, geology, and support services to achieve business targets.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary management team.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimise performance and extend mine life.
- Manage budgets, cost control, and overall financial performance of the operation.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including regulators, communities, and contractors.
Minimum Requirements
- Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (Metalliferous Mines) - essential.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 15-20 years' experience in the mining industry, with substantial underground exposure.
- Proven track record in senior management roles within underground mining operations.
- Chrome mining experience will be advantageous.
- Sound understanding of South African mining legislation and compliance requirements.
