Our client is seeking an experienced and driven General Manager to join their dynamic team and lead sustainable growth and operational excellence across Africa.
As part of a leading organisation, you will be responsible for managing the execution of contracts, leading a dynamic team, and ensuring financial and risk management align with company objectives.
Your strategic insight and leadership will be key to driving performance, ensuring customer satisfaction, and fostering continuous growth.
Minimum requirements:
- BSc or BEng degree (a postgraduate degree will be advantageous).
- Management, business, or commercial-related qualification.
- MBA or similar management qualification.
- Minimum of 15 to 20 years of applicable experience, including leadership development.
- Have experience in mining services management.
- Be recognised as a thought leader in the mining industry.
- Demonstrate excellent commercial and contract management acumen.
- Demonstrate excellent financial management acumen.
- Be medically fit as per company standards.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Divisional Business Management:
- Ensure sustainable business management across the division.
- Conduct country risk analysis, implement mitigation strategies, and manage associated risks.
- Lead and support team management and development initiatives.
- Develop business plans and drive growth aligned with the Company's Strategy for Africa.
- Leadership:
- Share joint accountability with other divisional heads (General Managers) for divisional performance and long-term sustainability.
- Lead and develop divisional management and staff to operate effectively and efficiently.
- Establish a Divisional Leadership Team that is innovative, visionary, ESG-focused, and people-oriented.
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the financial performance of the division.
- Monitor and manage financial performance across all operating countries.
- Support and manage financial audits conducted in each country.
- Ensure compliance with country-specific tax and financial reporting requirements.
- Risk Management:
- Align divisional risk processes with the Company Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Evaluate country, client, and project-related risks and opportunities.
- Assess operational, governance, safety, environmental, and social risks and opportunities within the division.
- Contract Management:
- Oversee the tendering process, including risk matrices, financial models, profit margins, and returns, while ensuring all approval requirements are met.
- Manage contracts to ensure achievement of business targets, including risk mitigation, cost control, production, quality, ESG, SHEQ, availability, utilisation, margins, and returns.
- Handle the commercial aspects of contracts, including scope of work, change management, escalation processes, and contract closure.
- Customer Relations Management:
- Maintain regular contact with clients to ensure complete customer satisfaction and receive positive feedback.
- Assist operational managers in resolving outstanding client issues.
- Ensure service level agreements are implemented, adhered to, and reviewed regularly through scheduled meetings.
- SHEQ Management:
- Develop and implement SHEQ standards and procedures in alignment with client SHE programmes and the Company's requirements.
- Evaluate site management performance through formal site audits.
- Recommend continuous improvements and corrective actions while monitoring implementation and outcomes.
- Growth:
- Establish and maintain strong business networks across regions.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for new business development.
- Evaluate risks and opportunities associated with countries, projects, and clients.
- Managing the Team:
- Review, develop, and continuously improve the divisional structure, organograms, role profiles, job descriptions, and key performance indicators.
- Select and appoint competent, motivated individuals who align with the Company's values.
- Asset Management:
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of asset management and its impact on financial performance and business sustainability.
- Oversee capital requirements, funding strategies, return on investment, budgeting, and performance monitoring at a divisional level.
- Monitor asset efficiency through availability and utilisation metrics.
