About the position
The main purpose of this position is to operate the company in accordance with best practices and in the business’ best interests to achieve profitability and exceed customer expectations. To lead, guide, support the operational managers and their teams (Imports/ Exports/ Transhipment and Commercial/Pricing)
Leadership
- Set high service levels for our customers which exceed their expectations and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Constant margin and cost analysis to achieve agreed budgets
- Develop and manage commercial solutions and opportunities to support Sales team
- Service and expand customer base by supporting Operational and sales teams
- Oversee RFQ, pricing and tender management in line with the Groups strategy
- Constant analysis of competitors and market trends to ensure Groups strategy is on track
- Maintain operational policies and procedures and ensure operational best practice is applied.
- Protect the assets of the Company and its customers. This includes preventative measures to maintain and protect from damage or loss, the Company’s facilities, and licenses, and the cargo of its customers.
- Best practice use of all IT systems
- Risk Management and reporting
Staffing
- Set and lead high service levels and implement, monitor and manage internal procedures and policies to maintain operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Maintain a sufficiently skilled and experienced team to provide a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Recruit, interview and cross-train staff.
- Conduct regular performance reviews.
- Manage, train, mentor, develop and discipline staff.
Requirements - Matric with Business, Shipping or Logistics Qualification
- Computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Forwarding/Clearing systems)
- Operational experience in Freight Forwarding, Supply Chain and logistics
- At least 5-10 years of experience in leading and managing a team
- A good understanding of the business and its local and international market.
- Strong commercial, financial and customer focus.
- Commercial skills with the ability to maintain, obtain and develop business.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage, plan and schedule work as well as motivate and hold accountable a multi-skilled team.
- Communicate effectively at all levels within and the organization and 3rd parties (Suppliers and Customers)
- A good understanding of systems, controls and processes together with the ability to implement and monitor them.
