About the position

The General Finance Manager is responsible for all finance functions and tasks for South Africa. Ensures statutory and tax compliance; creates and implements policies and procedures. Supports the senior management team by offering insights and financial advice, in strategic planning and analysis that will allow them to make the best business decisions for the company.

At least 5 -10 years' experience in a senior finance role
Proven experience in South African Tax, able to advise companies on best practice.
Strong budgeting and forecasting experience.
Excellent skills in Sage Evolution & MS Office, especially Excel;
Audit knowledge within South Africa
Proven track record of mentoring, managing and training employees
Accounting Degree with Honours or Audit articles or technical training (SAICA for South Africa)
Registered Chartered Accountant / Professional Accountant advantage
Postgraduate degree in Taxation is an advantage

  • South African Audit

Is responsible for overseeing the external audit for the whole South African region; Ensures all financial documentation of the entities are collated for the external audit in collaboration with the financial team of the respective business units.
Gathers and reviews financial statements, interest calculations and tax computations in preparation for the external audit.
Serves as primary contact for the external auditors; resolves queries and further investigative matters, problem solves with the applicable business unit's financial team.

Ensures full IFRS compliance across the South African Group. Prepares IFRS calculations (IFRS 9, IFRS 15, IFRS 3 and IFRS 16), discounted cash flows, Tax computations, related party data to ensure the audit runs smoothly.

Prepares and manages the South African consolidation in order for the group consolidation to be finalised.

  • Strategic SA Tax planning

Drives, executes, and takes responsibility for the strategical tax planning for the Group within the South African region
Suggests strategies for efficient cashflow management, but also meeting legal requirements and ensuring compliance.
Keeps informed of external situational circumstances; Is able to adapt to and apply changes for the business unit in terms of tax benefits/losses/liabilities, for example Covid-19 regulations.
Takes part in the strategic tax planning three times a year, including provisional tax planning, in cooperation with the CFO and Finance Managers.

  • Acquisitions

Forms part of the post-acquisition team in terms of financial integration, on-boarding and training financial teams to ensure a seamless transition to Avacare's reporting structure, procedures and processes.
Is available for interim on-ground management, if needed by the newly acquired entity.
Takes responsibility for debt-collection and performs a general analysis of the status of the financial records.
Serves as liaison for the audit transfer to the Group's external auditors.
Trains employees in the financial department on Avacare's reporting, creditor management and creation; plus, Opco preparation and reporting.

  • Financial Management

Oversees the financial operations of the assigned companies.
Involved in the Opco meetings and activities
Allots funds for capital projects and works with the HOD to ensure they stay on within the budget and forecast financially.
Reviews financial data compiled by the finance team including but not limited to, trial balances, payroll reconciliation, stock count/reconciliations, Vat Reconciliation and ensures accuracy of data for financial audits.
Creates, pulls, and compiles general financial reports as requested by executive management.
Monthly Exco reporting - variance analysis, commentary on results, management pack reviews

  • Budget Planning and forecast

Together with the respective HODs of the supporting entities, draws up, plans budgets, and projects forecasts.
Proposes the cashflow forecast for each subsidiary and manages it on a weekly basis.
Takes part and oversees the yearly budgeting process for each supporting entity.

  • Treasury

Ensures all SA entities are compliant with group treasury requirements (cashflows are reviewed and submitted on time, any additional data requirements are provided to the group)
Performs age analyses; resolves complex problems and takes a new perspective to existing solutions.
Monitors the company's risks and losses.
Ensures sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational requirements.
Managing the SA covenant and treasury compliance

  • Employee management

Is responsible for staff recruitment, performance assessments, training, and career development.
Is accountable for headcount planning, succession, and departmental development.
Manages functional and operational finance and support teams; conducts regular meetings to regulate the output and achievement of departmental goals.
