Front End Developer

About the position

Job Title: Front End Developer Description We are seeking an experienced Front End Developer for a contract role 

Location: Johannesburg — 4 days in office, 1 day remote. All pre-employment checks must be clear. Only candidates available to join early will be considered; applicants requiring a 30-day notice period will not be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performing, responsive web applications using TypeScript and React.
• Implement and extend shared packages, component libraries, and design systems to ensure consistency across products.
• Apply CSS pre-processors and modern CSS methodologies to create maintainable stylesheets and responsive layouts.
• Enforce architectural standards, code quality benchmarks, and front-end best practices across the engineering team.
• Collaborate closely with back-end developers, UX/UI designers, QA, and product teams to deliver well-architected and testable solutions.
• Optimize application performance, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility for large-scale web applications.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated quality checks.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional front-end software development experience with demonstrable work in modern web frameworks.
• Proven experience building production applications with TypeScript and React.
• Strong working knowledge of HTML5, CSS, and CSS pre-processors (e.g., Sass).
• Experience creating and maintaining design systems, shared component libraries, or UI toolkits.
• Familiarity with web performance optimization, accessibility standards (WCAG), and responsive design principles.
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and collaboration with back-end services.
• Experience with testing frameworks, build tools, package managers, source control, and CI/CD practices.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality code on schedule.
